Description
This is a lovely antique sterling silver vesta case from the early 1900s. This Edwardian era match holder is a lovely collectors item and would be a great present, perfect for holding small items in. It comes in a gift bag.
It was made by William Aitken and it was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1906. The makers mark and hallmarks are on the rim of the case.
The case has a beautiful engraved art nouveau design all the way around the outside of it. On one side it has a shield with EJ engraved in the centre. It has a loop on one side of the case so it could be attached to a small chain.
The hinge works well. The Silver is shiny with tarnish which helps to show the pattern. There are quite a lot of dents to it, particularly on the back of the case which can be seen in the photos which adds to the history of it. This has been reflected in the pricing.
measurements
It weighs 22g. It measures 4cm by 4cm (just over 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches). The depth is 0.9cm (just under 3/8 inch).
