Antique Edwardian Amethyst & Seed Pearl 15ct Gold Pendant Necklace Art Nouveau 'Fan' Design c.1905

We are delighted to offer this enchanting antique Edwardian art nouveau pendant/brooch necklace made c.1905. The goldwork is simply wonderful on this particular piece: it is crafted with a combination of naturalistic art nouveau scrolled foliate motifs and a fan-like section at the top which appears to be possibly an influence of Japonisme/Japonaiserie. The manner in which the gold setting has been intricately made is especially impressive and noteworthy on this pendant. Not only do the scrolls interweave, but each section tapers in thickness towards the 'curves' and to compensate for such a fine design, the seed pearls are also set in tapering sizes with incredible 'tightness'. This is particularly tangible when looking at the pendant as a whole - there is a sense of exceptional precision and detail yet each section comes 'together' as one whole. The central section is set with a beautiful faceted amethyst which is complimented by the pear-shaped amethyst drop below. Each section moves freely which truly comes to life upon wearing and embraces the fluid and free design of the art nouveau period. Distinctly Edwardian and distinguished from contemporary pieces, this pendant makes for a wonderful addition to any antique jewellery lover's collection and a conversation starter upon wearing. Owing to its bail and pin on the reverse side, it can be worn practically both as a brooch or a necklace and its alluring colour is a wonderful accent to any outfit.
