Description
Note: best to fix this to the wall as these old heavy mirrored armoires can tip forward when the door is open Antique tall narrow French hardwood armoire cupboard in Louis XV style with big mirrored door. Highly carved crest and finials on shaped cornice above. Turned feet. The mirror is shaped and bevelled while the door frame is veneered in a diagonal pattern. Working lock and key. The sides are similarly veneered. Inside, the door back is veneered in birdseye maple or birch, probably. There are four adjustable, removable shelves with dark inlaid veneer fronts; one of these has two short drawers suspended below it. There is a further, fixed, shelf at the bottom with a long drawer below it. These three interior drawers are also birdseye veneered; they have working locks but just one (slightly battered) key between them; we'll try to find more, even just non working ones as they also operate as handles to pull them. Please note, this piece isn't deep enough to use a left to right hanging rail. You could put one in front to back though. The armoire doesn't dismantle much: the top comes off and obviously the door and innards are removable which helps with the weight. You'll need to provide help if we use our regular one man courier.

condition
Condition is pretty good: structurally it's solid and works well; the door mirror is very heavy and has dropped a little so you can just see the top of the glass; doesn't seem to move though. The door has rubbed away some little chips of wood from the base where it closes; that seems to have been cured with a washer or two, to lift it a little. Cosmetically there are various scuffs and dings, though nothing much really, apart from a small section missing from the top right beading, below the cornice (pictured) and a not-particularly-precise repair to the mitre joint, left front of the cornice (see pics). The carving on top has slightly pulled away from one mounting; it's not structurally important. It's all pretty normal stuff for any piece this age but, as it happens, not that noticeable anyway as it's quite busy up top. Some old woodworm under the base, at the front: we treated it anyway.
