Description
Here we have a beautiful antique sterling silver milk or sauce jug from the late 1700s. It would be perfect for serving sauces, milk, cream or gravy on special occasions.
It was made by Robert Jones II and it was hallmarked in London in 1796. The Hallmarks are below the lip at the front of the jug.
The jug is very much the Georgian style of the late 1700s and early 1800s. The silver is shiny with an elegant handle at the back. The interior has had a gold wash to it but most of this has worn away.
One side of the jug has a number of dots and quite a few scratches where someone has removed an etching which was probably a coat of arms or an emblem.
You can see the join where the handle has been attached to the jug at the top from when the jug was made which adds to its authenticity.
measurements
It measures 8cm in height to the centre of the jug (just over 3 inches).
Its quite heavy, weighing 150.5g
