Description
This is a stunning silver plated antique oil lamp standing a majestic 74cm tall overall.
Base:-
A weighted silver plated Corinthian Column base made by Esteemed silversmiths Hawsworth Eyre & Co. bearing an inscription for the original owner “Major A.F.B. Fische Dso From The Members Segeants Mess 14th Battery R.G.A. 26th August 1919” The base has a screw-fit top and the underside has the original green baize.
Font:-
A beautiful Hinks number 238 (see penultimate picture - taken from a Hinks catalogue) crystal font which is deeply cut with a hobnail pattern to the main body and with disc shaped cuts to the shoulders. The font has a silver plated undermount and lugged type collar.
Burner:-
A messengers No. 2 silver plated key lift duplex burner with working wick winder, and snuffer lever. The key lift works well and the single stem wick winder controls both wicks. The black glass button is marked “Messengers No.2 and the burner itself is marked “Messengers both to the main body and the Flame separator. New wick has been fitted and there is an unbranded flat bulge chimney in place.
Shade:-
An antique silver plated shade gallery supports a beautiful moulded antique cranberry satin glass frilled shade. The shade graduates in colour from a dark pink at the rim through to clear at the base.

G2 Trading has clarified that the Antique Hinks Silver Plated Oil Lamp Cranberry Glass Shade (LA477899) is genuinely of the period declared with the date/period of manufacture being Victorian

The lamp is in excellent condition with little if any wear to the plate and all components in good order. Although the inscription is dated 1919. I cannot guarantee that this is the date of production. The lamp mat well have been older when it was purchased but obviously, it doesn’t date to post 1919.
