Description
This pair of antique scent bottles are beautifully cut as befits a maker who has a significant portion of his work forming an important part of the National Trust's Collection at Mount Stewart, County Down.
Made in the latter part of the 19th Century and assayed in London, the silver tops were likely heavily gilded providing the foundation of the light gold hue still visible across some of the current surface on both.
In bringing these recently found gems back to a good standard we have not used strong chemicals that would potentially strip all signs of the gilding, electing instead to allow the purchaser to decide if they would prefer to retain the shadows of the past or undertake newly gilding both.
We hope one of our customers will recognise the beauty in these masterpieces and love them either way.
These are valuable and respected pieces from the workshop of a skilled and revered silversmith.

condition
condition
Overall condition is good; glass has no cracks, with just a couple of very small nibbles to the cut points. The gilding is worn as to be anticipated in scent bottles well on the way toward their 130th birthday (see description above). The cork stoppers in each of the lids are present and flexible for their age.
