Description
We are delighted to offer this spectacular antique Victorian rock crystal cabochon pendant necklace made with 15ct solid gold in the Victorian era, c.1870. (*Please note: all other items are for display purposes only and this listing is for the item listed in the title only).
This unique and beautiful pendant is made in the Etruscan revival style, capturing the essence of the period's mystical nature and enchanting designs. Set with an almost celestial or magical rock crystal in the centre, this piece exuberates mystery (a magical crystal ball or even a Ufo comes to mind upon first glance).
The intricate craftsmanship and skill in making such a delicate yet ornate design are exemplary and marvellous in this piece. The fine frill detailing, stippled background and twist rope borders truly accentuate this distinguished pendant.
Further signs of superb design and aesthetics can be seen where the gold mount is set with a rock crystal cabochon that serves as the mount for a central partition of seed pearls.
The seed pearls have not only been mounted on top, but embedded within the crystal so that it lies flush whilst also allowing the cabochon to still be fully transparent and see-through - a very impressive technical feat of jewellery making and also of artistic virtuosity.
The rock crystal is 'crystal clear' with no visible inclusion; this transparency allows it to take on hues and colours of its surroundings. Furthermore, by placing a piece of coloured paper/cloth behind it, you can effectively choose the colour of the central cabochon.
The pendant also features a glass back and pin that allows it to be worn as a brooch/locket. The glass back is fully secure but has some slight play which can be dampened by placing something within/removing the glass back. This does not affect its usage and the glass will not come out/fall off on its own.
A remarkable piece of fine Victorian jewellery whether it be a special gift or for a personal addition. This pendant would most certainly make for a unique addition for the distinguished antique jewellery lover and an instant conversation starter upon wearing.
The pendant is unmarked as is common with articles of this period and as such we have tested it fully with results indicating 15ct solid gold.
Ready to wear out of the box: All of our pendants also include the photographed thinner complimentary 9ct solid gold (modern) chain so that you can enjoy your newly acquired treasure straight out of the box. The antique and heavier belcher chain is for display purposes only.
All of our jewellery comes with a complimentary modern hard shell gift box with a velvet interior. Please note, any other antique boxes/display items are not included unless otherwise stated.
