Baby Carriage Spotted Rambler Rocking Horse For Restoration c.1930
Extremely rare small Baby Carriage Limited spotted polychrome Rambler rocking horse that dates to the 1930s for Reference see the details on page 98 of A Kiss of Rocking Horses, A directory of British rocking horse
makers pre 1950 by David Kiss. (Fabulous reference book for rocking horse lovers).
The metal work is as documented for BCL as well as the diamond that sits on the rocker shelf. The green hooves are also exactly right for this model.
Reportedly made for the first class play rooms on ocean liners with this colourway being the rarest of all. The original blue on the saddle I was once told was a reference to the Irish workers related to the liners.
I have owned this for the last 14 years, it was found in a shed and since then has been used as a display piece in our antique centre and has then been stored for the last few years since the shop closed. We treated it for wood worm in the stand but have done nothing else to it.
I only know of one dealer that's sold an original, she tried to buy it from me when I first owned it but I refused.
When I asked what she sold hers for she wouldn't tell me but said it was the most expensive horse she'd ever had.
As far as I can find there's only one similar for sale which is a Lines Brothers Rocker. In all the years that I've owned mine this is the first time I've found any spotty horses for sale. This one is totally original and has never had any restoration. There's an old repair to the inside of one front leg otherwise it's untouched.
That said restored properly it will be wonderful although I like that's it's in it's original state.
Brilliant project which will earn a profit which is a bonus.
Happy to answer questions.
