Description
A very good scarce lacquered brass aneroid desk or table barometer by Antoine Redier, Paris c.1875.
Aneroid barometer having 3” stepped brass-bound coated card dial, the outer portion with standard meteorological terms in French, further marked "Baromètre Anéroïde" with Antoine Redier "ARED" logogram, the inner calibrated in centimetres with a range from 69cm – 80cm divided down to 1mm. Blued steel arrow form pointer, gilt index, flat glass, polished reflector ring.
The cantilevered rack and pinion movement driven from a single 2" x ⅜" capsule, all contained within a brass drum form case, calibration port to verso, pendant and bow. Supported on twin turned feet.
Condition: Fully serviced, conserved, and calibrated under laboratory conditions, working well and with easily acceptable accuracy across the range, see performance chart. The dial essentially clean and bright, the brass case retaining most of its original lacquer.
Comments: This is a really aesthetically attractive instrument, particularly unusual within the UK. Very much a piece for the collector or connoisseur alike, and perhaps an ideal desk accessory gift.
