Description
This is a good scarce Art Deco "Stormoguide" aneroid marine barometer in the form of a ship’s wheel by Short & Mason. Marine barometer having 4¾” brushed and lacquered, printed and illuminated dial, the outer part with prognostications in black for rising pressure, the inner in red for falling pressure. Square to centre showing the range from 27.5" to 31" divided to 1/20ths, marked "Stormoguide" inside and "Compensated for Temperature" below. The bottom of the dial marked "Short & Mason, London - Made in England - Copyright 1932." Japanned alloy pointer, gilt and red illuminated index. Bevelled glass held in a lacquered brass bezel. Good quality rust protected movement driven from a 2¾" single capsule tensioned on a C spring, all contained within a pressed steel housing, calibration port to verso. The whole mounted within a turned and lacquered hardwood frame in the form of a ship’s wheel, radially mounted turned brass spokes. Hanging plate. Condition: Fully serviced, conserved, and calibrated under laboratory conditions, see performance chart. The dial about fine, the movement working very well with excellent levels of accuracy and sensitivity. The turned frame with some slight losses, marks and signs of age. Comments: A very aesthetically attractive good quality marine barometer, lending decoration and interest to any room or boat.
