Description
Late 1800’s rosewood dome top box containing a matching pair of brass screw top inkpots. No missing or replaced veneer. Ornate etched brass decoration comprising of twin straps that extend from the bottom edge of the front to the bottom edge of the back rather than stopping at the bottom edge of the lid at the back as is generally the norm. Pierced feature to the top and to the surrounds of the key hole. All of the brass decoration is original, complete and in excellent condition all firmly fixed with the original dome top studs. The lid closes perfectly square. Original hinges and lock with what is possibly the original working key. The lid interior is the original lacquered veneer. The base section has the original velvet covered panels. The box more than likely originally contained a pair of perfume bottles but the inkpots are a perfect fit…..both are in excellent condition. The velvet to the base of the interior and the central divider has been restored and considerable effort obviously taken to match the velvet. Recent years has seen a growth in people collecting and using fountain pens this item would be an ideal gift for the likes or possibly for those that practice the art of calligraphy, an art that thankfully has also seen a resurgence.
