Description
This delightful Silver Trophy was presented by the late Queen Elizabeth II to 'A Willis' as a prize in the annual Royal Household Golf Tournament (1975).
It is a scale replica of the original Challenge Cup Presented to the Club by George VI. It bears an inscription detailing this provenance. The maker is C J Vander.
The Royal Household Golf Club is in Berkshire and is a 9 hole, par 66 (4925 yards), private parkland golf course. It was built by order of His Majesty King Edward VII and was designed by Samuel Mure Fergusson in 1901.
In the early days the course was reserved for the Royal Family and their guests, however in time senior courtiers were permitted to play.
There are not many courses where a horse and carriage can pass alongside your fairway (let alone one used by the late Queen Elizabeth II) during your round; as could be done at the 4th hole of the Royal Household.
