Welcome to chapmanpugh modern antiques. We sell antiques from the 17th to the 21st centuries that look good in modern and contemporary settings. We are particularly interested in pieces created by influential designers, manufacturers and furniture makers. We choose examples which we think are stylish and are interested in their place in history. We especially like antiques with a story attached. We also love the fact that by buying an antique piece of furniture, pottery, glass etc to use again, we are preserving our natural resources and preventing the environmental burden of another item being produced. This is why antiques are so wonderfully sustainable. New items are added on a regular basis. We ship to Europe, the United States and the Rest of the World.

Description
In General A stunning large statement Sancai glazed stoneware sprung bowl dated 1990, designed and made by the famous Japanese potter, Takeshi Yasuda. This bowl is a beautiful example of his work showcasing his signature style of tactile organic, contemporary forms. The studded handles have a touchable reptilian look and feel whilst the Sancai glaze gives the bowl its lovely subtle, warm coloration of brown, green and creamy off-white. Sancai glaze was notably used by the Tang Dynasty (618 -907). The rim is cleverly inverted. Takeshi Yasuda was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1943. Initially he was interested in engineering and industrial design. However a visit to Mashiko, led to a passion for pottery and he became an apprentice at the Desai-Gama Pottery, where he later set up his own workshop in 1966. In 1973 Yasuda moved to the UK and set up a workshop in Hampshire. Later he became a professor of Applied Arts at the University of Ulster. From 2005 to 2010, Yasuda led a ceramics workshop in Jingdezhen, China where he established a studio. In 2014 he was awarded an Honorary Degree from Bath Spa University.  Yasuda creates unique pieces - his work is thrown and has a lovely tactile quality where he retains the supple nature of the clay he is using to create organic, expressive and sensitive forms. He allows the clay to develop into these fluid shapes. Softly dented surfaces and occasional slip trailing offers unlimited tactile sensations. The combination of casual and formal and control and relaxation makes Takeshi Yasuda's work so appealing.  Takeshi Yasuda's work can be seen in many national collections worldwide including The Crafts Council Collection London, The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, The National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, Collections in Norway and New Zealand. His work is also featured in documentaries and books. Year 1990. Designer and Marks Makers mark under handle. Material Stoneware.
