Description
A good antique pocket compass by Francis Barker, London c.1860. Pocket compass having 1⅝" quadrant paper dial, divided to one degree, the inner showing the cardinals, intercardinals and false points, fleur de lys to indicate north, decorated centre. Blued steel flat needle, marked "N" and "S" in gilt. Bevelled low dome glass contained within a brass bezel, gilded reflector ring. All contained within a leather over wood case, the inner lid lined in deep blue velvet, swinging hook closure. A lovely antique compass in good working order. A perfect gift. An identical dial is shown in Kornelia Takacs' "Compass Chronicles," p19.

condition
The paper dial with slight signs of ageing, otherwise clean. The needle swinging freely, and finding north easily. The glass damage-free. The leather case in good condition, slight warping to upper lid, the velvet lining crisp and bright.
