Victorian Walnut Davenport

A lovely Davenport desk dating from the late 19th Century. It is made of walnut with nicely inlaid borders and stringing and a carved fretwork gallery around the top edge. It has a sloped front with a beautifully tooled red leather writing surface that lifts up to reveal a large storage compartment with a small drawer and pigeon holes. There are four drawers to one side of the davenport and four matching dummy drawers to the other. It also has a small drawer with a pen tray in that swings around to the side. It has two carved scrolling supports and stands on turned bun feet with castors below. It is a very good quality piece and in good condition with a wonderful patina. The drawers open smoothly and the interior is generally clean and tidy. There is some wear to the leather writing surface and a few small losses. There are signs of age and use, some minor marks, a few old chips and splits but nothing detrimental and overall it is a lovely sturdy piece of furniture. We do not have any keys. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask.
