Description
This is a very nice and usable pair of sterling silver condiments. The set consists of a matched salt and pepperette both of which carry full U.K. hallmarks for Sheffield 1957 - curiously the pair have different date letters, one is marked with date letter O which covers the 1956/57 period and the other is marked with the date letter P which covers the 1957/58 period.
This is not such an unusual anomaly as the cut off date for the date letter change would of been in the spring time, with that in mind it's entirely possible that both were made in 1957 - one pre letter change and one post letter change.
The silversmiths mark is Ev for Emile Viner who later became better known as Viners, the cutlery manufacturers.
The main body of the pair have been nicely engraved with floral patterns and swags in a neo classical style.
The lids of each are the simple push on type which can be turned and twisted to provide the tightest fit - each lid is also part marked which is normal on pieces such as these.
The salt pot measures 10cm tall and the pepperette measures 10.5cm tall - the total weight of silver is 90.9g

condition
condition
The set is in good clean condition and shows very limited wear - there are no significant marks or faults to report. Both parts to the set have a very, very slight list to one side, but this is insignificant and doesn't detract at all.
