Based in stunning Speyside, Moray, Scotland, we (Mr & Mrs W) are passionate about quality antique items with great design and evident craft, predominantly from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century.
In particular, we enjoy period items reflecting the beautiful design and aesthetic changes from the decorative arts, from circa 1850 - 1960. Including the Aesthetic Movement, Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts Movement (In particular of Scottish origin), Modernism, Art Deco and Streamlining. We also enjoy the great craft and quality construction in folk art and vernacular items from across Europe. In particular, Scandinavian decorative items from the 18th and 19th Century. We enjoy being analytical in our approach and supporting our stock with background research, provenance and history through researching the items, the period, designers and retailers.
We often hunt the country from our Scottish location, but routinely search from Lancashire and Yorkshire as well as buying trips further afield to supply items online. We also like to take on items that particularly interest us from earlier periods, dependent on our fascination for an object.
We are always learning, and happy to share knowledge gained, so please do get in touch. Thanks for viewing our selection of stock, we are always pleased to see items pass through our hands to new owners and homes as antiques remain a great green recyclable purchase!

Description
This beautiful tall 18th Century oak armchair (potentially from Northern half of England, Scotland or even the Northern Isles) has seen some utility and been highly valued to be repaired and conserved a number of times over 250+ years.
- The tall back is two panelled with tall stiles that extend above the back and enclose two oak panels that have been adzed and bevelled by hand.
- The down swept arms (similar to some lambing chairs) extend to join single pieces which form the front legs and are chamfered to a narrow width as they head to arm terminus. The chair is retained with peg construction, is very robustly constructed and is a solid, heavy oak armchair.
- The legs have had iron stretchers added high up running from the front to back to retain the strength in the chair during the Victorian period as single pins / bolt / nut. It has also had a replacement boarded seat at some point in its life along with patch blocks to the end of the legs. It has evidence of historic wear, tear and worm unsurprisingly for an armchair of this age but is in good solid antique condition ready for use or decorative utility.
- The wear and tactility of the arms in particular provide a strong sense of the character of the chair and the attractive tapering of the front legs as they extend up and slightly out.
A very characterful antique oak armchair with a rich colour and tall presence ready for a new home to continue the next 250 years.
