Description
This is a good oak Lancashire mule from the Mid 18th Century. The name evolved from the cross between a bedding box and a chest of drawers, as is a mule a cross. The drawer formation is particularly attractive on this piece, not all have six dummy drawers. There are one or two signs of old restoration but very minor and would need to be pointed out. The ogee bracket feet give way to four working drawers and six dummies all with mahogany crossbanding. To the sides are reeded canted corners, a small touch that you usually see on better sets of drawers, as are the fielded (bevelled) side panels. The top surface has a few marks as you would expect, but all seems to blend in with the original patina.
