Charming oil on oak panel miniature still life. The work is very much in the manner of the Dutch Golden Age with a lavish table setting depicted. There are jugs and flagons, with a lobster on a platter, and bread or pies to the side. The painting is very capably handled particularly as it is in miniature with great detail captured in the slightest addition of colour and the flick of a brush. The work is not signed as might be expected for this age and style, it does however retain a label on the reverse for Jakob Bogdani. I do not think the painting is by this old master but most likely a sketch taken from or inspired by his work. The painting is in very good untouched condition and is mounted in a later nineteenth/early twentieth century frame, which it has been in for some time.
The frame is in good untouched condition and works very well with the piece. The whole has a great period look and is an interesting and decorative piece.
