Christian Dior is one of the most famous Parisian fashion houses and was founded by designer Christian Dior in 1946,financed by Marcel Boussac, who at the time was one of the wealthiest Frenchmen of the time. The Fashion house was established with capital amounting to 6 million French Francs and Dior was given virtually unlimited access and credit to Boussac's textile Company. Dior wanted his designs to break free form the austerity of the war years with designs involving the use of the finest fabrics cut to emphasize the female form. These designs became known as the "New Look" and took the world by storm, and by 1950, Dior had moved on to produce perfume and accessories including stockings, ties, furs, hats and jewellery all designed with the aim of total beauty in which the design of the accessories such as the jewellery complimented the clothing becoming part of the overall fashion design itself. By 1948 Dior had established Dior Costume Jewellery in Germany with Yves Saint Laurent as assistant creative designer. Saint Laurent later took over as creative designer at Dior Costume Jewellery on Christian Dior's death in 1957. Saint Laurent later established his own fashion house, but Christian Dior has continued to lead in fashion and jewellery design, for example when Lady Diana, who was a fan of Christian Dior, visited Paris in 1995, Christian Dior presented her with a Dior Bag referred to as the "Lady Dior" in her honour. Creative directors at Christian Dior since then have included John Galliano in 1996, Bill Gaytten 2011, Ralf Simons 2012, Serge Ruffieux and Lucie Meier 2015, Maria Grazia Chiuri 2016 -today (Woman’s fashion), Hedi Slimanein 2000 (Men’s fashion), Kris Van Assche 2007 (men’s fashion) and Kim Jones 2018 - today (Menswear). Christian Dior still continues to lead world fashion and will most likely continue to do so.
