Selling is a top quality, unusual mid-Victorian copy of a Chippendale carved desk. The top drawer of the desk, when opened, reveals a rising writing panel and two lift up panels with storage beneath. All of these panels have a green leather insert with gold tooling. Beneath the top it has three drawers, all with very nice brass Chippendale style "swan neck" handles. The top drawer when opened is stamped by the side of the lock with Frank Giles & Co Kensington. The locks were made by Hobbs & Co founded in 1852, and then in 1855 traded as Hobbs, Ashley & Co. Either side of the drawers, the cupboard doors have ornate Chippendale style carving. The cupboard on the right hand side is fitted with three small drawers, and the left hand cupboard is fitted with a shelf. A very unusual decorative and practical item.
