A Superb Set of 6 Boxed Silver Arts & Crafts Teaspoons by Amy Sandheim
A rare and sought after set of six silver teaspoons, presented in a fitted box. These superb examples are made by the well regarded female silversmith, Amy Sandheim, known for her quality Arts and Crafts inspired pieces.
The spoons have attractive spot hammered bowls, having been expertly raised from a flat piece of silver and the shanks are lightly planished. The terminals are of delightful pierced fretwork, reminiscent of stained glass windows and each spoon has full hallmarks to the reverse.
Amy Sandheim (née Wilkins) was born in 1876 and studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. She married fellow student Julius Sandheim in 1907, setting up her own jewellery and silver workshop within in the families shop - Sandheim Bros, at 130 Notting Hill Gate in West London. In 1923 Amy registered her own mark with the London assay office, which lasted until 1943.
