He is World Famous for….
….discovering the “Stern - Brocot Tree”, important in designing gear rations for clocks.
…..He invented the “Brocot Suspension” whereby adjustments to the time keeping could be made by altering the length of pendulum via turning a key in the dialand several improvements to clock design. Including his father’s (Louis Gabriel) Brocot Escapement.
….He also designed and built Clocks with Perpetual Calendar Mechanisms.
….From 1851 till his death, he was in partnership with Jean Baptiste Delettrez - “Brocot & Delettrez”.
….Treasurer to La Societe des Horlogers in Paris and was awarded the First Class Medal at the 1855 Paris Exhibition.
The illustrious London firm of Charles Frodsham retailed his clocks.
This is a fine black slate mantel clock in very good condition, with only minor age related wear. Surmounted with Egyptian Revival Gilt Bronze Decoration comprising A Pair of Sphinx Statues and a Single Urn.
The 8-day movement marked 'ab' in a star with black slate dial, gilt bronze bezel and central lozenge, has been checked and tested to be in full antique working order - keeping good time.
