An Aesthetic Movement Gilt Table Centre Piece or Tazza

This fine table centre piece or tazza dates to the 1880s and is made from brass or bronze. The dish top is decorated with a very detailed central panel showing a medieval king, other figures and a dog in a dramatic scene within a flared and stepped surround, decorated with cherubs and dragons amongst a foliate deep relief boarder. The highly decorative upper section is raised onto a plain stem supported by a flared and moulded foot. This heavy and well made piece is signed by the sculptor at the bottom of the medieval scene and also has a gilt brass label on the underside attributing it as a piece from the Art Union of London. The tazza is in very good condition with no dents or damage and retains a pleasing original gilt finish showing some age-related wear and patination. Height 12 cm x width 28 cm x depth 28 cm
