Description
This is an antique dining hall canteen on stand. An English, oak and silver plated 12 person cutlery set, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910.
A beguiling raised canteen with a comprehensive array of cutlery, encased in elegance that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout. Superb oak stocks present a treat of fine grain interest and rich caramel hues.
Offering 154 pieces in total, for a near complete set — a few auxiliary pieces absent. Quality silver plate and celluloid handles, with Mappin & Webb maker's marks throughout.
Arranged as a two drawer canteen upon a raised stand, offering an extra storage drawer. Field panel lid graced with an unmarked brass name plate, ideal for personalisation. Lid opens to show the initial layer of cutlery, set within shaped compartments. Large spoons and carving pieces present within the lid interior, with dining spoons, knives and forks below.
A further pair of drawers host multiple forms of cutlery, with recessed brass pulls for access. Canteen removable from the stand if required, with campaign manner carry handles to sides. The whole raised upon a quartet of tapering, square section legs. Case presents an inset plaque for the company's iconic Queen Victoria St location in London.
This is a fascinating antique dining hall canteen on stand, the whole of a standard expected of a formal function and comprehensive in its breadth of cutlery. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home.
We offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee with all of our antiques.
