Description
This is an antique artist's paint box. An English, mahogany and ebony carry case by Winsor & Newton of London, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1890. Superb artist's box from a renowned London paint specialist that displays a desirable aged patina and remnants of media commensurate with use. Select stocks present fine grain interest and warm caramel hues throughout. Quality ceramic accessories display crisp white hues. Tasteful ebony stringing accentuates the lid edge. Dressed to the fascia with a brass circular lock escutcheon — in working order, key present. Useful interior arrangement of removable compartments over a lower sliding tray. Pair of lift-out paint trays annotated with hand written colour names, each hosts 9 hues. Charming Winsor and Newton ceramic mixing slab with maker's mark to reverse. Lower tray held in place with a pin, opens to reveal a James Newman palette. Lid interior dressed with a gold tooled maker's mark for Winsor & Newton, London. Further Winsor & Newton motif adorn the tray bases. This is a delightful antique artist's paint box, with a suite of essential items for the enthusiastic painter. Presented within a quality case and in a wonderful 'as used' manner. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready to enjoy.
