Description
This is an antique copy of The Life of Charles Dickens by John Forster. An English language biographical account of the Victorian author, dating to the late 19th century, published circa 1880.
Synonymous with the social fabric of Victorian England, Charles John Huffam Dickens (1812 - 1870) was a prolific novelist and social critic. Lauded in his lifetime, the 20th century viewed his works as literary genius. Of great popularity to this day, his influence included the merchandising of the Pickwick milieu in the William IV period and campaigning for children's rights during the reign of Queen Victoria - often a theme within his writing.
A long-time friend of Dickens, John Forster (1812 - 1876) made acquaintance with the famous novelist in 1837 and continued the friendship until Dickens' passing. As his literary advisor, John Forster first published his biographical account in 1874 across three volumes; presented here as a single volume comprising all twelve parts from Dickens' birth to his passing.
A delightfully illustrated account of Charles Dickens' life across 449 pages. Bound in a striking marble paper with leather spine, gold titling and embossed detail. Presented in good antique condition, pages intact. Dedication by the author to the daughters of Charles Dickens. Illustrated with over 30 engraved plates, adding appealing character to the account.
This is a delightful antique biography of Charles Dickens, with a comprehensive account of the author by his friend John Forster. Delivered ready to enjoy.
