Harold Hitchcock (1914-2009) Born in Camden Town, London, a descendant of British artist George Stubbs, Harold Hitchcock (1914-2009) painted his first portrait at age 14. With only minimal formal training, he is basically a self-taught artist. In his late teens he took evening classes at the Ruskin Art College. He also studied the Old Masters. In order to earn a living, he began doing commercial artwork. Over the years his work has evolved from realism to surrealistic landscapes with the presence of human forms that are sometimes merely suggested. About painting Hitchcock said: "It's an instinctive thing" "It's an interpretation of an inner vision." Hitchcock's paintings are in the permanent collections of London's Victoria and Albert Museum, the Hunterian Museum in Glasgow, and the Yale Center for British Arts, to name a few.
