This is an antique gentleman's writing slope. An English, burr walnut and leather correspondence box, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1850. Delightful craftsmanship with a striking appearance that displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order. Select burr walnut show fine grain interest and warm caramel hues. Gold tooled and embossed leather skiver in a charming deep blue. Unmarked brass name plaque to lid, ideal for personalisation. Case fascia dressed with a brass lock escutcheon — in working order, key present. Pleasingly accentuated to the corners with ebonised borders. Opens out to a gentle slope, with a two piece skiver. Pen tray with removable cover, and ink well compartments at the upper edge. Each half of the skiver lifts to gain access to a documents compartment.
