Description
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George II English sterling silver Hanoverian pattern soup ladle; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection. This exceptional and rare antique sterling silver soup ladle has been crafted in the Hanoverian pattern. The posterior surface of the handle terminal is embellished with a contemporary engraved crest of a serpent nowed below a coronet. This fine example of antique silver cutlery has a plain rounded bowl with a rounded heel. The anterior surface of the ladle features a pip to the handle terminal. The reverse of this impressive Georgian ladle bears the original scratch weight of 10 troy ounces and 1 pennyweight (10.05 troy ounces) above the lap/scarf joint solder line; as to be expected the measured weight has subtly diminished in keeping with age to 9.9 troy ounces. Such hand raised, period examples with a scarf/lap joint to the stem of the handle, typically have flat shallow bowls and are rare to the market. Maker: Philip Roker II
