Description
Exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique Georgian English sterling silver strawberry dishes; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. These exceptional antique George II English sterling silver strawberry dishes have a plain rounded circular shaped form. The chased, panelled bodies of these sterling silver dishes are each embellished with an incurved shaped rim; the interior surface of each dish is ornamented with an impressive engraved coat of arms*. The underside of each dish bears the original item numbers 3 and 4**, in addition to the scratch weights of 13 troy ounces and 9 pennyweights (13.9 troy ounces). * This marital coat of arms pertains to the family of Cox, impaling Codrington. These arms commemorate the marriage of Richard Cox and Caroline Cadrington on 17th June 1747. Dueto the date of manufacture of the dishes, it can be determined that they were in either one of the families possession or the couple acquired the dishes, and engraved their conjoined arms. Read this items heraldic identification report. ** These pieces are a segment of a more extensive table service incorporating dishes, trays and platters; through time the service will have been divided. Maker: Charles Martin Origin: London, England
