Description
Exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George III English cast sterling silver tapersticks; an addition of our ornamental Georgian silverware collection. These exceptional antique George III cast sterling silver taper candlesticks have a plain classical English four shell form. The plain cylindrical capitals are encircled with bands of rope twist and tooled decoration. The upper portion of the waisted shaped column features a panelled quatrefoil shaped knop embellished with lobed designs to each corner. Each column is further ornamented with a plain circular knop to the lower portion encompassed with further rope twist decoration. These decorative columns surmount quatrefoil incurved shaped bases embellished with four shell ornamentation, in addition to the contemporary bright cut engraved crest of a lion's head wearing a coronet. These antique Georgian silver tapersticks do not have weighted bases. Origin: London, England

These antique Georgian silver tapersticks are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each base are all very clear; the hallmarks are deeply struck due to the exceptional gauge of silver. Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of antique silverware.
