The surface of the body of this exceptional sterling silver box is embellished with impressive embossed scenes depicting women and children carrying a floral garland whilst playing musical instruments. This antique dressing table box is fitted with a hinged cover incorporating an impressive inset hand painted panel of a female portrait in period attire, accented with an embossed silver bud style border incorporating ribbon bow motifs. The plateau of the cover is ornamented with impressive floral and foliate festoons, both swagged and pensile. The surface of the cover is further embellished with a continuous, paralleling foliate border to the rim. The cover opens to reveal the original gilded interior. The underside of the box is plain and unembellished. By virtue of its size this versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions.
