Description
We are delighted to offer this beautiful set of solid silver gilt German ice cream server/spoons made c.1900.
The set is ornamented in Rococo style with wonderful fluid and ornate decorative motifs of acanthus leaves, scrolls and swirls.
The asymmetric handle design in combination with its naturalistic design makes for a wonderful presentation when displayed on a table and splayed across next to one another.
Contributing to its overall splendour, the spoons are also parcel-gilt (partially gilt areas and others left silver) with the majority of the surface being covered in gold, yet a hint of silver contrast showing through on the lower chased and stippled areas of the handle.
Further, the gilding not only provides a lovely contrast to other silverware but also adds a layer of protection from the silver tarnishing.
Due to the practical size of the spoons, the set could be used for a wide variety of purposes even in the modern day: aside from serving ice cream, the spoons would make for an excellent teaspoon, jam spoon or simply as a convenient dessert spoon.
All items are marked with the 800 standard German silver mark along with the crown and crescent mark.
