Antique Impressionist landscape oil painting study of avenue of trees signed David Muirhead. British, circa 1900-10. Signed by the artist, David Muirhead (1867-1930), Suffolk Artists. David Muirhead has paintings exhibited in the Tate Gallery and the Royal Academy in London and in numerous other museums in England and Scotland. "David Muirhead was born at Edinburgh on 19 March 1867, son of John Muirhead, a master builder, and his wife Jesse née Brown, who married at Cramond on 14 November 1856, David was a younger brother to artist John Muirhead (1863-1927). David was educated at the Trustees' School Edinburgh and trained to be an architect and studied at Royal Scottish Academy schools but in 1894 moved to London and studied at Westminster School of Art under Fred Brown (1841-1941) and at the Royal Academy Schools. A landscape and figure painter and a Member of the New England Art Club 1896, a founder member of the National Portrait Society 1911, an Associate of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours 1924 and an Associate of the Royal Academy from 1928. His favourite sketching area was on the Thames, the Wye and the Medway and in the marshes and estuaries of Suffolk and Essex. He exhibited at Agnew & Sons Gallery; Beaux Art Gallery; Colnaghi & Co. Gallery; Chenil Galleries; Fine Art Society; Royal Society of British Artist and many others including the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1923, two works 'Evening on the Medway' and 'Hastings'. 1901-1911 an unmarried painter artist, living at 132 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea, London. David Muirhead was still of Cheyne Walk, Chelsea when he died at 7 Wilbury Road, Hove, Sussex on 2 April 1930, aged 62 and buried beside his parents and two siblings in Warriston Cemetery, Edinburgh. Royal Academy Exhibits from 60 Castle Street, Edinburgh 1895 83 Miss Gordon MacKenzie from 132 Cheyne Walk, Chelsea". Elaborate gilt gesso frame. Depicts a study of an avenue of trees. Christies catalogue number stencilled on reverse. Another of his paintings of similar subject matter is exhibited in the Tate Gallery.
