Description
This is an antique single-piece show desk. An English, oak and leather pedestal desk for central room placement by Merryweather & Son, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900. Superb showpiece desk, with fully finished form and attractive appearance, that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout. Warm biscuit hues accentuate the finely figured oak stocks. Substantial, single piece nature being rare and unusual. Presented as a wide desktop with inset drawer boxes, over two banks of four graduated drawers. Original brown leather skiver inlaid to the top, embossed with scrolled fan border. Trio of drawers across the apron, each dressed with small brass pulls. Deeply formed fascia accentuated with chased arcade moulding in relief. Distinctive narrow kneehole, furnished with shaped apron brackets. Set within each pedestal, the lower drawers dressed with brass drop handles. Brass-lined locks to each fascia — untested, key absent. Middle drawer presents a maker's plaque for Merryweather & Sons - Holloway, London. The whole standing upon shaped bracket feet, with fully panelled back. This is a striking antique single-piece pedestal desk, graced with wonderful colour and a distinctive showpiece nature. A treat of late Victorian craftsmanship, perfect for central room placement. Solid joints and construction, delivered ready for the home or office.
