Antique Plique-à-Jour and 4.23ct Diamond, 21ct Yellow Gold Brooch Circa 1890

A stunning, fine, rare and impressive antique plique-à-jour and 4.23 carat diamond, 21 carat yellow gold brooch; part of our diverse Victorian collection of brooches. This stunning, fine and impressive antique brooch has been crafted in 21ct yellow gold. The impressive, rare and unusual symmetrical winged brooch is ornamented with two central claw set Old European cut diamonds, in a vertical linear formation, accented with a trifurcating wirework setting to the upper portion each terminating with a further claw set diamond. This central formation is framed to the lower portion with an inverted arch design incorporating nineteen pavé set diamonds in a combination of Old European and eight cuts. The swept fan designs to either side of the central setting are embellished with impressive plique-à-jour* panels, bearing scalloped borders to each terminal ornamented with seven further pavé set diamonds. The nadir of the brooch setting supports an articulating claw set Old European cut diamond, surmounted with a smaller claw set diamond, completing the design. The antique Victorian enamel brooch secures to the reverse with a hinged pin and clasp fastening. This antique brooch has been independently tested using state of the art technology (Niton Xl2 Analyzer) and verified as 21 carat gold; this indicates the high quality of the piece. This impressive brooch is supplied with two Idgl diamond grading report certificates for the feature stones, in addition to an Idgl diamond grading report card for the supporting stones. This stunning and unusual brooch is an exceptional example of the highest quality. Note: * Plique-à-jour is a vitreous enamelling technique similar in technical execution to cloisonné, where the enamel is applied to defined 'cells' within a metal filigree. With plique-à-jour, there is no backing to the design, allowing light to pass through the enamelwork, suggestive of stained glass. Plique-à-jour is derived from the French 'braid letting in daylight'. Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds.
