Antique Rector's Prie-dieu Chair, English, Ecclesiastical Prayer Seat - Regency

This is an antique rector's prie-dieu chair. An English, rosewood ecclesiastical prayer seat, dating to the Regency period, circa 1820. Fascinating display chair, with delightful quality and aesthetic appeal, displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout. Select stocks present deep caramel hues and fine grain interest. Professionally reupholstered in the traditional manner, with a tasteful foliate needlepoint. Superb backrest adorned with a double scroll crest rail with oval centrepiece. Distinctive ears host turned finials above and below a faceted mount. Exceptional barley twist supports frame the back rest with aplomb. Lightly cushioned, the back rest occupies a broad T-shape with fretwork below. Set at a comfortable height of 43cm (17'') the plump cushion accentuated with brocade trim. Front legs repeat the barley twist motif, terminating in tall bun feet with inset castors.
