Antique Russian handpainted miniature Papier Mache Jewellery Trinket Box c.1960s
Lacquered miniature Box from estate collection.
It has piece of paper/note from previous owner
that it is 'Russian Papier Mache box handpainted c. 1880-1890'.
But I think it is not correct.
The style and period for this amazing artwork from circa 1950s- 1960s. It is pity that somebody deliberately cleared signature of Artist, date and unique number (Originally each piece of unique art work had his own number in Palekh ), it has to be signed on the bottom of miniature and marked on the back ( usually it is signed Palekh or made in Russia or USSR for this period). You can see with magnifying glass the places what has been cleared (the surface and laquer is slitely damaged, please see photos provided as part of description) it is not too noticable .
I think it was deliberately scraped off, deleted by somebody to pretend that this box is much older.
The artwork is amazing, done by professional artist who worked in old school Palekh style, who learned from old masters.
Artist depicted the sceene from famoust fairy tale:
'A tale of the king Sultan' written by A.S.Pushkin
Hand Painted Miniature
Fantastic Rare collectable Piece. That artistic traditional craft is slowly disappearing today.
Even without the author’s signature that is worth the attention (the artistic value of such boxes in used condition for this period , if they are signed can be £300 - 700 or more)
