Description
This delightful camel (Clive) pincushion is an iconic product of the Saunders and Shepherd partnership and is widely sought amongst pincushion collectors.
This example has seemingly been treated with less respect than it deserves during its long life and consequently bears a number of dinks, specifically to each rear quarter, neck and on top of the head. Additionally, a previous owner seems to have used a solvent glue when fitting a replacement pad, leaving a darkened rim around the hump opening.
However, despite this, we believe that Clive remains attractive, functional and practical. Since finding Clive amongst other blackened pieces of silver, we have carefully and sensitively cleaned his silver, given him a new hand dyed velvet hump and made sure his structure is robust.
We have not sought to de-crease the silver on his rear quarters, press out the open seam or flood or silver solder any of the foregoing.
Despite Clive’s shortcomings we believe he remains a good-looking camel, with a long and full life ahead of him. So if you can see his appeal and would like to offer him stabling, please examine his photographs carefully and reflect on the price which is adjusted to take account of his condition.

condition
Overall Clive’s silver is in good to fair condition, but as previously indicated he does bear evidence of previous owners maltreatment. That said, in our opinion, the overall aesthetic and practicality of Clive remains uncowed.
Consequently, please do make time to review all of the pictures to gain a full appreciation of the item and its condition. Should you have any other questions in respect of either the item or its condition, please contact us and we will be pleased to assist wherever possible.
