Description
This is an antique silver chest. An English, oak and cast iron storage trunk, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1860.
Delightfully stout craftsmanship and appearance that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order. Select stocks present fine grain interest and deep caramel hues. Copious iron straps adorn each edge in contrasting black finish.
Strap hinge covering the inset lock escutcheon — key absent. Opens wide to the interior, resting securely upon an articulated hinge. Pleasingly clean interior of generous proportion.
Maker's mark for Lewis of New Bond Street in London along the leading edge. Personalised brass plaque to the fascia, engraved F. Alexander Esquire. Dressed with stout iron drop handles to each side.
