This is an antique Sutherland table. An English, burr walnut gate-leg 4-seat occasional table, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1840. Impressively figured oval table in the traditional Sutherland form that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order. Quality burr walnut presents superb grain interest, with book-matching to top. Rich caramel hues radiate a pleasingly warm vibrance. It is of useful breakfast table or tea service proportion when extended. Striking oval top with scalloped edge detail to each corner. Wide drop leaves extend the seating area comfortably for four. In the folded position, the narrow profile ideal for storing in the smaller room. Articulated gate legs provide support for each leaf at 90 degrees. Elegantly turned baluster legs united with a stretcher rail between prominent cabriole feet. Each foot decorated with blind fretwork carving and scrolled toes.
