Description
This is an antique travelling author’s writing box. An English, flame mahogany and boxwood correspondence case, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880.
Striking Victorian craftsmanship with delightful marquetry that displays a desirable aged patina and in very good order. Select flame stocks present superb grain interest. Attractive warm russet hues accentuate throughout.
Exceptional boxwood inlay to lid and fascia with saffron yellow hues. Dressed with a brass lock escutcheon — in working order, key present. Fall front opens and extends to reveal the writing skiver. In tasteful bottle green, the skiver is tooled and embossed.
Set within the lid reverse, a matching leather cushioned pad with pen slides. Five document compartments with an offset square tray - ideal for a small inkwell. Two delightfully petite drawers dressed with circular brass pulls. Pair of brass drop handles to either side aids ease of carriage, perfect for travelling.
This is a superb antique travelling author's writing box, with a suite of charming features. Quality marquetry inlay adds to the Victorian appeal. Delivered ready to grace the desktop.
