Description
This is an antique travelling vanity case. An English, coromandel jewellery box, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1850.
Striking example with a suite of wonderful storage and vanity items that displays a desirable aged patina and in good order throughout. Select coromandel stocks present superior grain interest. Rich caramel and chestnut hues dance beneath a wax polish finish.
Brass bound to the case edge with dark golden hues. Fitted interior reveals a lift-out compartment tray, dressed with indigo velvet. Lightly foxed mirror set within the lid, removable by activating a brass push button. Access gained to an indigo coloured leather folio sleeve with embossed pattern.
Small push button within the rear edge activates the lower jewellery drawer. The tray a treat of indigo and cobalt blue with demi-lune earring cushion. Pair of glass bottles with silver plated lids nestle within a quartet of recesses. Inset, working Bramah lock secures the case — key present.
