Description
Here we have a beautiful pair of antique sterling silver salt Cellars from the mid 1700s. They would be a lovely way of serving salt and pepper at the dinner table or using as a rings dish. They were made by Edward Wood who was well known for making salt cellars in the 1700s. It was Hallmarked in London in 1742. The maker’s marks and Hallmarks are on the bases of both salts. Rp is also engraved on the bases of each one. The Salts are cauldron shaped which was a very popular design in the Georgian era. They each have three elegantly shaped legs and feet and blue glass liners. They are in very good condition with the silver shiny and some light scratches and tarnish. Together they weigh 147g. The diameter at the top of the salts is 6.2cm (2 1/2 inches). The height is 3.7cm (1 1/2 inches).
