Art Deco 1930's Gwenda Butterfly Wing Crinoline Lady Picture Powder Compact

This attractive art deco 1930's powder compact is made by the British factory of Hussey Dawson and was sold under the familiar trade name "Gwenda". This powder compact measures 8 cm in diameter and is made of chrome metal with black enamel base and the lid features a picture of a crinoline lady seated at a window and looking out over the trees in the garden. The picture is printed on the underside of a protective celluloid covering and mounted over shimmering butterfly wing which provides the irridescent colours of the lady's dress and the background sky. Gwenda also produced many similar compacts with foil backing imitating butterfly wing and I have noticed many sellers describing these foil compacts as butterfly wing. There is a clear difference and this one is genuine morpho butterfly wing. This powder compact has firm hinge and secure clasp and opens to reveal a shiny chrome interior. Under the lid is a perfectly clear and reflective polished metal mirror and the open powder well in the base retains a the original black metal edged sifter. The hinge is marked Gwenda Made in England. This 1930's butterfly wing powder compact is offered in good condition. The case has no dents or dings. The chrome metal has some spots of tarnish and the butterfly wing has some losses as visible in the images. Thank you for your interest.
