Description
A scarce arts and crafts oak chair.
Made in almost two sections.
The back can be removed by unscrewing the four screws, two either side.
The top has the wood slightly chamfered. Always a sign of quality and attention to detail.
Sledge like design. Very bold.
One could argue the following;
In the manner of John Hassall for Liberty & Co. London.
Hassall's work ranged from poster design, greeting cards, book illustrations.
His work was humourous and a depiction of Englishness; albeit his own interpretation.
One can see the designs he did for Libertys including some rare chairs.
There is no matching example of this chair to compare to at present.
However some examples of chairs designed by Leonard Wyburd again for Libertys do have similar features.
So again one could argue;
In the manner of Leonard Wyburd for Liberty and Co. London.
Even though this is a p.o.a its priced to sell.
