Based in stunning Speyside, Moray, Scotland, we (Mr & Mrs W) are passionate about quality antique items with great design and evident craft, predominantly from the 18th, 19th and early 20th century.
In particular, we enjoy period items reflecting the beautiful design and aesthetic changes from the decorative arts, from circa 1850 - 1960. Including the Aesthetic Movement, Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts Movement (In particular of Scottish origin), Modernism, Art Deco and Streamlining. We also enjoy the great craft and quality construction in folk art and vernacular items from across Europe. In particular, Scandinavian decorative items from the 18th and 19th Century. We enjoy being analytical in our approach and supporting our stock with background research, provenance and history through researching the items, the period, designers and retailers.
We often hunt the country from our Scottish location, but routinely search from Lancashire and Yorkshire as well as buying trips further afield to supply items online. We also like to take on items that particularly interest us from earlier periods, dependent on our fascination for an object.
We are always learning, and happy to share knowledge gained, so please do get in touch. Thanks for viewing our selection of stock, we are always pleased to see items pass through our hands to new owners and homes as antiques remain a great green recyclable purchase!

Description
For sale from W&W Antiques is a beautiful English school Arts and Crafts Movement copper twin handled loving cup (or small vase) of tapering form c.1900-1910 attributed to the Yattendon Guild. Affiliated as part of the Home Arts & Industries Association from 1884 to increase craftsmanship skills among the working classes and to promote the revival of rural craft industries.
- The Yattendon Metalworking class, West Berkshire was an evening class for local men and boys was organised by Elizabeth Waterhouse (1834-1918)
- The beautiful tapering form cup has a stylised twisting foliate design with three flower heads (e.g. lotus flowers) in repousse. These appear to the front and rear of the cup as a sinuous floral decoration rising up the tapering form
- The repoussé copper decoration were mostly from Elizabeth’s own designs, with distinctive handles, shallow nature of the repoussé and background punching/grounding are characteristic. The decorative motifs were inspired by plants and flowers and the Yattendon class established a good reputation for design and art-metal workmanship. Items were retailed locally and via Liberty's in London and received high praise.
- Twin tubular handles looping from neat copper rivets in the side of the tapered form vessel.
- Unmarked as an art metal-ware piece with high quality design and execution, unpolished with a lovely dark copper patina
In good solid condition throughout, a highly decorative form ready for a new home.
