Its always been a passion for me the Arts and Crafts movement. The items for sale are a reflection of Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, modernism, aesthetic movement, anglo Japanese, period antiques, decorative items, Cotswold School, limed oak, British architecture, architects/designers/craftsmen. Glasgow school.
This is an Arts & Crafts / Cotswold School table probably by the Bath Cabinet Makers. The table is signed underneath and the signature is quite difficult to decipher (possibly C.A.Richter). High quality figured Amboyna wood veneer with an intricate concave detail near the feet. The main legs and top are walnut. The outer legs are veneered with two thin bands of walnut and amboyna wood of the highest figuring.
Very expensive. The fretwork is solid walnut. The top again is walnut, solid wood, with figured amboyna veneer inset with a rectangular banding of walnut veneer.
The finish appears to be a clear French Polish or varnish to protect the wood and enhance the finished product. A collectors piece. Superb quality.
Bath Cabinet Makers were established in 1894 and made high quality furniture throughout the 1920s. Their work is often to the highest standard using high quality veneers and wood. They had their own style and their work is almost a homage to Arts and Crafts meets Cotswold School in the furniture that they made.
Their work does follow the arts and crafts ideology and Richter was elected as a member of the arts and crafts society. Instead of workmen performing arduous and monotonous work the machine was embraced for its purpose. The firm was highly successful and gained worldwide recognition .
Richter and the Bath Cabinet making firm are considered a highly important company in Arts and Crafts Movement and its continued development throughout the twentieth century .
Signed and dated 1925 underneath.
All the eight expansion pieces are individually numbered 1-8.
Quality always shines .
