This is a delightful pair of original paintings after Francois Boucher in their original good quality gilt bronze ormolu frames dating from around 1890. The paintings are in bold gouache colours one with courting couple surprised by a young farmer with scythe in hand the other a comedic romantic scene with Cupid and a farm girl and suitor. The pair are both signed d’ L Boucher.
Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was a French painter, etcher and draughtsman who famously worked in the Rococo style. He is well renowned for his idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical themes, decorative allegories and pastoral scenes. He was perhaps the most celebrated painter and decorative artist of the 18th century.
